PRESIDENTS LETTER

Our November meeting was our annual “Tribute for Our Veterans”.  Our speaker, Cheri, was terrific but the heart-felt remembrances from our members had everyone choking back tears.

Who will ever forget November 2, 2004?  Our beloved President, George W. Bush, received the first majority vote since 1988 and therefore a mandate to pursue his conservative Republican agenda.  He’ll have support in doing so because of the seats Republicans picked up in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.  In spite of a blatantly adversarial media, the American people have spoken loudly in support of the War on Terror and out brave and courageous troops.  In short… WE WON!

NORTHERN DIVISION FALL CONFERENCE REPORT

BY ALICE J. WILSON

On November 18th, Doris Whitney, Shirley Harvey, my husband, W. L. "Bud" Wilson and I journeyed to Chico.  That afternoon, Doris, Shirley and I attended the Executive Board meeting.  The following two days, Region II Director Barbara Maggi and the members of Glen County RWF, Chico RWF, Orville RWF and Paradise-Magalia RWF did a wonderful job hosting the Conference.

During the Conference, we were privileged to hear a number of interesting and informative speakers.  Jerry Maltby, Vice Chairman, Northern Region, California Republican Party was the Luncheon speaker.  Two excellent workshops:  "A Seat At The Table" (How to obtain an appointment to the CRP) was presented by Ann Duer Whitley, Director of Member Services, CRP and "A Diamond For Every Local Unit" (NFRW Achievement Awards) given by Murriel Oles, CFRW Recording Secretary and Northern Division Achievement Awards Chair.

The Banquet Speaker was Joe R. Hicks, Vice President of Community Advocates, Inc.  He gave us an exciting talk on his journey during the past

twenty-eight years from far left Liberal to Conservative Republican.  He is currently writing a book on the subject and I am looking forward to reading it.

Fran Peace, Chief of Staff for Wally Herger, Congressional Representative to the U. S. Congress, Second District, was our Saturday morning speaker.  She told of the work her boss and other Congressional Representatives did to contribute to the Bush-Cheney victory.  She was a charming young woman who had us laughing and crying with her stories of the wonderful volunteers she worked with during the campaign.

The Spring Conference will be held in Napa March 18th and 19th of 2005.  Stella Smith, Region XI Director that she wants to see all of us at the Conference and that we should each bring ten people with us, so we need at least forty people from Region VIII for the event.

The Leadership Conference will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Fairfield.  All Officers and interested members should attend!!
