SILICON VALLEY REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED NEWSLETTER Diamond Award ClubJanuary 2004 President: Laura Ann Riffle 263-0990 1st V.P & Program: Doris Whitney 997-0581 2nd V.P. Barbara Ferguson 739-0795 Shirley. Harvey Newsletter Editor (408) 253-1591 PRESIDENT’S LETTER Our website is HYPERLINK "http://www.SVRWF.org" www.SVRWF.org please visit it often for information on our club. Doug Wilson (Alice Wilson’s son) is our web master and is much appreciated for all he does. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope all of your holidays are wonderful. I know my family will have a great time as our only granddaughter is now two and a half and realizes what the holidays are all about… or at least the Santa Claus part. She is a little confused on the other part… she thinks she is Baby Jesus and Mary and Joseph are her parents. Oh well, she will get that straight next year.
I want to thank Alice Wilson for a lovely installation and for the flowers for each of us. Alice always puts a nice touch on things. I also want to thank Doris Whitney and Jane Reed for the musical sing along, it certainly started our December on the right foot.
I sent the the “Blue Star Mom’s” postcards off to San Ramon Republican Women to send to the troops overseas and got a lovely thank you note from Pam Martin, their President. They will be sending postcards off in February so if you would like to contribute, bring them to our meeting and I will make sure they get sent to her. It may not seem like a lot but we all know our men and women just like hearing from us and knowing we support them. The next two meetings we will be having local Candidates running in the March Primary election. Please bring husbands and friends. ****************************** CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY Chairman’s eReport Dec. 12, 2003 ereport@cagop.org Campaign Promises Kept Move California In The Right Direction Governor Schwarzenegger has been in office less than a month, but already he is remaining true to his campaign promises. Today, he delivered a victory for California by convincing Democrats to vote in favor of his economic recovery plan. California faces a financial crisis because Democrats in the legislature have been spending more than the state receives in revenues. The passage of Governor Schwarzenegger’s economic recovery plan is a victory for the men and women of California because it gives them the opportunity in March to vote in favor of forcing the politicians in Sacramento to live within the state’s means. There is a misperception that the state constitution requires a balanced budget each year. In fact, it requires only that the governor present a balanced budget to the legislature in February. The proposal governor Schwarzenegger is putting before the voters in March will require the legislature to pass a balanced budget each year and will prohibit Democrats from overspending the people’s money in future years. Governor Schwarzenegger is making good on his promise to restore California’s economy and bring fiscal accountability to state spending. He also delivered on an important promise to repeal SB 60, the bill signed into law by Gray Davis just prior to the recall election, which granted drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Last week, the governor signed a bill authored by Senator Rico Oller (R-Chico) to overturn the controversial law. Governing is a process and sometimes change comes incrementally. We should all be encouraged by the progress that governor Schwarzenegger is making. And Republicans can look forward to the positive results our state will experience in the coming years under his leadership. It is refreshing to have a governor who takes action and leads Democrats and Republicans alike in the right direction. ****************************** CFRW – Northern Division Leadership Workshop Holiday Inn Select, Fairfield – Saturday January 17, 2004 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Directions: East from San Francisco: Take I-80 to Travis Blvd. West exit at Fairfield, crossing over Freeway to second signal, turning left on Holiday Lane @ Raley's, proceeding straight into hotel parking lot.
