SILICON VALLEY REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED NEWSLETTER Diamond Award ClubFebruary 2004 President: Laura Ann Riffle 263-0990 1st V.P & Program: Doris Whitney 997-0581 2nd V.P. Alice Story 733-3248 Shirley. Harvey Newsletter Editor (408) 253-1591 PRESIDENT’S LETTER Happy New Year! This should be an exciting year but we do not want to get complacent, so everyone get out and work for Republican candidates for all offices and especially President George W. Bush. Since one of the purposes of our organization is political education, we will have another group of candidates who are running in the March election come speak to us on February 5th. Please come and hear what they have to say. This past weekend I attended the Northern Division Leadership Conference in Fairfield. It was great to see that our Silicon Valley club had two members at the head table, Alice Wilson and Doris Whitney. Shirley Harvey, being a Director of Region VIII is also on the board. Our club has the most representatives sitting on the Board. We owe a big “thank you” to these ladies for all of the time and effort they put in on behalf of the SVRWF. At our February meeting, I will be collecting postcards to be sent to our troops in Iran and Afghanistan. Please bring a couple with you and I will send them to the Blue Star Moms so they can send them off with their February packages. This may not be much but I think we all want to let our service people know how much we support them and that they are in our prayers, always. Please check the calendar for upcoming events especially Advocacy and Lobby day in April. I went last year for the first time and it was very exciting. We all came in Red jackets and went to the Capitol to lobby Democrat Legislatures on issues we were interested in. We had a short orientation class before-hand and visited the legislators in small groups. I hope many of you will consider coming with us. ******************************** RAYMOND L. CHUKWUFOR 2004 UNITED STATES CONGRESS REPUBLICAN DISTRICT 15
678 Rebecca Way San Jose, CA 95117 (408) 244-7852 chukwu4congress@aol.com
NOTE: Raymond Chukwu is the only Republican running in District 15 BIOGRAPHYRaymond L. Chukwu is an Aerospace Engineer and Entrepreneur. He is the founder and President of Black Technologies Advancement Research Institute in San Jose, California and author of two books. He is running for US Congress District 15 because he cares about you and your family and also cares about keeping California and the United states strong. He also believes that he has the potential to help advance the agendas of the Republican party when elected to this office.
Currently our primary concern is that companies are leaving the Silicon Valley at an alarming rate and those remaining are having difficulty growing their businesses because of the red tape that is stifling our economic growth with jobless recovery. As a Congressman, Raymond plans to launch Silicon Valley Economic Summit with the captains of major businesses to seek their inputs on how to implement his equation of economic recovery which is given as E=JE2T to help cut the red tape and revitalize the economy. He will also work closely with the Governor to encourage businesses to come back to California. Also with our education standard at its lowest level, especially in science, math and engineering, he will put forward a congressional taskforce that will champion academic excellence by working closely with Secretary of Education, Mr. Paige and other policy makers. In addition, as an aerodynamics analyst for Trident 2 D-5 Missile at Lockheed, Raymond exhibits superior capability to our national defense which is advantageous at a time when our country is at war fighting global terrorism. That is why he is also a strong advocate of advanced scientific research and development that could give us a more robust economy and exceptional defense capabilities.
The campaign slogan is “Technology Is The Jet Engine of the 21st Century Economy” and that is why he used flight dynamics in his economic plan. However, the implementation of such new concept can only be accomplished through the backing of strong members of the Republican Party such as yours. Raymond is very appreciative of all the opportunities California has given him and he wants to give something back. GOVERNOR HITS A HOMERUN By Duf Sundheim (1/9/04) Chairman California Republican Party This was an outstanding week for Californians. On Tuesday, Governor Schwarzenegger hit a homerun when he delivered his State of the State address. Viewers who have never watched a governor deliver such a speech tuned in for the first time to see their governor – and they weren’t disappointed. It is refreshing to have a leader who can relate to voters and who isn’t afraid to state for with clarity and conviction. For last five years, we had to dissect Gray Davis’ speeches to determine what he said versus what he implied. More often it was a game of determining what he was trying not to say. With governor Schwarzenegger, what you see is what you get: “We cannot tax our way out of this problem. More taxes will destroy what we are trying to save, which is jobs and revenue. …A tax increase would be the final nail in California's financial coffin. The people of California did not elect me to destroy jobs and businesses by raising taxes. I will not make matters worse. ” (State of the State Address, January 6, 2004) The governor challenged the legislature to bring accountability to workers’ compensation by reforming a system that allows fraud and abuse by people with illegitimate claims who do not deserve to be compensated. And he is following through on his campaign pledge to clean up Sacramento by examining bureaucratic waste and making government work more efficiently. These are the issues that matter to voters, and they are the issues that help our candidates win elections. The governor also promised to travel the nation and the world on our behalf, to tell people everywhere to come to California to work and visit. He indicated his top priority will be “jobs, jobs, jobs.” Meanwhile, Assemblyman Leland Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco, introduced a resolution last week that would urge the California Building Standards Commission to adopt building standards that promote Feng Shui principles and publish these standards in the California Building Standards Code. Friends, this is not a joke. Your tax dollars went to pay staff to draft language for a resolution to codify Feng Shui. There is no doubt which Party is working to bring jobs to California. There is no doubt which Party is working for the best interests of California. It makes me proud to be a Republican. |
