PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
As I said to Pat Dando, “You were worth waiting for”. She is a dynamic speaker. She explained the business of the Chamber of Commerce so well. It is definitely a valuable part of government. Our communities need goods and services to survive. Where the plan shopping areas and decide on lactones for other important places for a residential areas. So many things need to be considered and people of Pat Dando’s caliber are important. The Chamber of Commerce also attracts new business to a city.
In June at our luncheon we’ll have the pleasure of listening to Mr. George Marotta again along with his associate Jean Wren from the Hoover Institute about “The 30 Most Important Women in the World”. I am really looking forward as much as you are to find out who they are and what they did to get on list! Let’s get as many people to come as possible, come and talk republican with us.
Regards,
Ellen Longworth,

LEGISLATION
California Update from CRWF
According to our Republican lawmakers, the Governor's May budget revision so far is more disappointing than satisfactory. According to most there won't be the budget cuts that are not only expected but necessary. The budget as it looks now will be spending more money than it will be taking in. This budget is still under revision and there is still another month of negotiation before the budget is finalized. At this point we are looking at a deficit of 2.5 billion dollars; this is not good. There are also some good aspects of this budget: no new taxes and no tax increase. There is also an effort to pay off our past deficit which is definitely a positive step. This budget also fully funds both education and transportation. Our Republican lawmakers all share the sentiment that California has no problem with revenue. California is a money making state and every year we take in more money than the year before; the problem is that we spend too much and at some point we have to make cuts.
AB 1634 OPPOSE: Levine (D-40). This bill would force every pet owner, who doesn't purchase a permit, to spay or neuter their cat or dog.
SB 25 SUPPORT: Abel Maldonado (R-15) introduced a bill, the Senate version of AB 84, that would allow a tax deduction for people who have Health Savings Accounts. The tax deduction would be the same as allowed by federal law. Currently, California is one of a handful of states who do not allow this deduction.
