PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Thank you to all who participated in the Region VIII Rally, especially Shirley Harvey, Director of Region VIII.  It was a resounding success.  Everyone had a good time and the chorus from Kings Academy was fantastic.

The unexpected highlight of our rally was discovering that John, our regular waiter at the Ramada Silicon Valley, (along with his wife) had recently become a new citizen!  What a GREAT accomplishment!  Our congratulations to John!  For the rally, John let his support of President Bush be known by decking himself out in “W” election paraphernalia.  He asked for voter registration forms for he and his wife.   By now, both John and

By now, both John and his wife are newly registered REPUBLICANS.

Our November meeting is our annual “Tribute for Our Veterans”.  Please bring pictures of your favorite veterans and be prepared to share stories.  Don’t forget, we take up a collection for veterans at this meeting.  Don’t forget to bring a little extra cash or your checkbook.

Our Treasurer, Carol Greenleaf and her husband, John, recently traveled to the University of Illinois where they endowed a chair in the Psychology Department.  That’s where they both attended college.  What a great legacy to leave… the gift of a fine university education!

November 2 is Election Day.  The stakes have never been higher.  Let’s do all we can to make sure our country is secure and our fiscal house is in order.  Vote REPUBLICAN.  Make sure your Republican friends, family and neighbors get out and vote.

Issue of the Week

Teresa Heinz Kerry Criticizes Laura Bush for Never “Holding a Real Job”

ACTION ITEMS:

Contact your state Democrat Party Headquarters and state Kerry/Edwards Campaigns and protest Teresa Heinz Kerry’s latest verbal attack. In an interview with USA Today, Heinz Kerry questioned First Lady Laura Bush’s role and whether she had ever held a “real job” before moving into the White House. Heinz Kerry is already well known for her caustic comments and frequent verbal attacks on a variety of people. A woman who questions whether teaching America’s children and raising children is a “real job” is not a woman that deserves to be First Lady!

 BACKGROUND AND MESSAGE:

During an interview with USA Today, Teresa Heinz Kerry questioned whether Laura Bush has had the experience to be First Lady, saying that she did not think Mrs. Bush had ever held a real job. Heinz Kerry stated that her experience was “a little bit bigger” and might make her more qualified.

First Lady Laura Bush is universally respected for her tireless work as First Lady. Prior to becoming First Lady of Texas, Mrs. Bush worked as a public school teacher and librarian in the Houston, Dallas and Austin, Texas school systems. Mrs. Bush also raised twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. There is no more important job than teaching America’s children and raising a family. In addition to these roles, Mrs. Bush has also been a tireless advocate for literacy causes. By questioning Mrs. Bush’s work, Teresa Heinz Kerry calls into question the contributions of every teacher and mother in America.

It is inexcusable that the wife of a candidate for president would call into question the role of teachers and mothers in this country. Heinz Kerry has repeatedly proven that she is possesses neither the dignity nor the poise to be First Lady. Call the Democrat Headquarters and campaigns in your state today and let them know that Teresa Heinz Kerry is an embarrassment, and not worthy of the title of First Lady!

Final Legislative Tally

The Legislature sent 1,265 bills to the Governor. He signed 954 and vetoed 311. Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed a greater proportion of bills (24.5%) than any of the previous five governors in their first year. Democrats had 689 bills signed and Republicans 265. Last year, under Governor Gray Davis, Democrats had 686 bills signed and Republicans had 125.

 New Study

A new Tax Foundation study ranked all 50 states on how friendly their tax systems are. Generally, the index rewarded states with neutral tax codes, have low and simple rates, avoid double taxation and have constitutional restraints keeping tax burdens low over time. California ranks 38th overall. The best tax system is South Dakota and the worst is Hawaii.

Police Call on Kerry to Stop Misrepresenting Their Support

US News Wire ^ | 10/16/04 | US News Wire

Posted on 10/16/2004 4:07:05 PM PDT by freedom44

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today Chuck Canterbury, the President of the nation's largest police labor organization, called on John Kerry to stop making misleading statements regarding his support from the law enforcement community. Both on the campaign trail and in Wednesday night's debate in Tempe, AZ, Senator Kerry has alluded that he has the support of the majority of these brave men and women.

"As the elected leader of the largest organization representing America's Federal, State and local law enforcement officers, I believe it's important to point out yet again that we do not support his candidacy for President," Canterbury said. "And to be perfectly frank, the groups which do support him actually share the same membership rolls and, taken together, probably comprise less than one-quarter of our nation's police officers."

Canterbury further noted that unlike the organizations which Senator Kerry touts, F.O.P. members as a whole decided that the Fraternal Order of Police would endorse the reelection of President George W. Bush. They based their decision, he said, on the record of the Bush Administration in supporting America's first responders-including helping to secure passage earlier this year of H.R. 218, the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, the organization's top legislative priority. Bush also successfully fought to greatly enhance the benefits for the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

"While Kerry was flying around the country campaigning and leaving the actual work of the nation to his colleagues in the Senate, the President was out there working on our behalf," Canterbury said. "Senators Kerry and Edwards have missed so many crucial votes this Congress that I was beginning to believe there were only 98 members of the U.S. Senate."

Canterbury also said it was the height of irony that Kerry would use his position on the reauthorization of the assault weapons ban as a reflection of his support from police.

"First, if a police officer is killed by an AK-47, Kerry would oppose the death penalty for the killer," Canterbury said. "In addition, where was he when this issue was being discussed in the 108th Congress? Where was he when we were working to pass H.R. 218? When it came time to help push for final passage of legislation important to law enforcement, Senator Kerry was regrettably A.W.O.L."

"Given the facts, I would greatly appreciate it if Senator Kerry would refrain from making similar whimsical assertions regarding his support from the law enforcement community," Canterbury said. "The real majority of my fellow officers are standing behind President Bush, because he has been there for us."

The Fraternal Order of Police is the nation's largest law enforcement labor organization, with more than 318,000 members.

Which presidential candidate newspapers are endorsing:

The Lowell (Mass) Sun:

“We in Massachusetts know John Kerry … In his 20 years in the U.S. Senate, Kerry, a Navy war hero hasn’t risen above the rank of seaman for his uninspiring legislative record.  He has been inconsistent on major issues.  First he’s for the 1991 Persian Gulf War; then he opposes it.  First he’s for the war in Iraq; then he opposes it.  First he’s for a strong U.S. defense; then he votes against military weapons programs, First he’s for the U.S. Patriot Act; then he opposes it…. We know if there is one thing the enemy fears above all else, it is that George Bush’s iron will is stronger than his iron won’ts”
