PRESIDENT’S LETTER

We have had a few of big developments this past month.   First, SVRWF now has its own website; the address is www.SVRWF.org.  Doug Wilson, son of Alice Wilson, has generously donated the first year and all of the work setting it up.  We are very pleased with the look and of course we are now technologically in the 21st century, just as a Silicon Valley group should be. Doug would like input on the website.  You may contact him at DAGWILSOND@yahoo.com .   Please be sure to let him know how much we appreciate all of his work on our behalf.

The next bit of information is that the Santa Clara Republican Central Committee has endorsed Able Maldanado for the California State Senate.  Currently Mr. Maldanado is a state Assemblyman.  They do not usually endorse until after the primary, but have made an exception because he is a strong candidate and they believe we need to give him a head start on his well-financed Democrat opponent.  By the time you get this newsletter Mr. Maldanado will have spoken at our Region VIII meeting April 17th.

The third development this month is that Duf Sundheim sent out a letter to tell us that we will still be getting bounty for registering voters, so on that note I would like to ask that you think about signing up to register voters for SVRWF at the Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival on June 7th and 8th. We will be taking sign-ups at our May meeting.

 SPEAKER NEWS

On May 1, we will have a most interesting speaker who will be managing Assemblyman Abel Maldonado’s campaign for state senate.  Brandon M. Gesicki is the Political Director of the Monterey County Republican Party and President of Mainstream GOP Consulting specializing in Public Relations and Marketing.  Mr. Gesicki is a very experienced GOP campaigner, and will elect Able Maldonado to fill the senate seat vacated by Senator Bruce McPherson.

Our June 5 SVRWF Dinner Meeting will be a chance for our members, associates and husbands who cannot attend luncheons to attend a regular meeting.  Our speaker, Vice Mayor Tim Risch, will provide us with timely information on the local issues.  Vice Mayor Risch is dealing with the development taking place in Sunnyvale, crime on the local level, and funding on the local level.  Bring your questions.

SVRWF  FOUNDERS  DAY

Happy 42th Birthday S.V.R.W.F. !  Silicon Valley Republican Women Federated (formerly Sunnyvale Republican Women Federated) was granted their Charter on May 17, 1961 after being organized on April 27, 1961.  There were 18 Charter Members.

They organized because they had a deep concern for good  government.  Meetings were first held in their homes.  As they grew they met in the Friendship Room of the Pioneer Investment and Savings Bank in downtown Sunnyvale, then to Sunnyvale Parks Activity Rooms for Coffee and Donuts.  Luncheons were "Special Occasions" - currently we have a "Special Occasion" each Month.

Through the years, the Club has been recognized with many awards for its activities - among them:  Silver, Gold, and Diamond plus Membership, Americanism, Club Achievement, Community service, and etc.  Although SVRWF does not now have any Charter Members, 10 of the Presidents are currently active members.

Many thanks to all whose dedicated work and  spirit have made SVRWF a strong Federated Club for 40 years.
